As well as the atrocities that have been plastered all over the papers, such as the horrific attack in Norway and the newspaper hacking scandals, I’m sure you all know about the appalling events occurring in Africa.

A food crisis faces more than 12 million people across Ethiopia, Somalia and Kenya. This is devastating and a very real threat. Can you even comprehend that figure? 12 million people? That’s three times the population of New Zealand.

Jane Cocking, Oxfam’s Humanitarian Director, said: “This is the worst food crisis of the 21st century and we are seriously concerned that large numbers of lives could soon be lost.
